After last week's result, the momentum was back with Doncaster going into this crucial clash of 2nd versus 3rd. Doncaster were a point behind and could not afford to lose the game.

The game started off cautiously, at the alternative venue of Hill House School (due to flood light problems at the home pitch), and Doncaster were playing it around the back well without causing any danger.

After the first ten minutes the game livened up with Doncaster dominating the midfield battle. However, Thirsk and Malton should have taken the lead after sloppy defending on 3 occasions by the Doncaster defence. The home team regained control of the game in the last 15 minutes but couldn't grab the lead and went into half time at 0-0.

After the break, Doncaster started on the front foot and some controlled possession led to the opening goal. Callum Hartley beat his man to go clean through with Russ Saywell to the square of him, Hartley then committed the keeper and passed to Saywell who lifted it over the diving keeper.

From the restart Thirsk and Malton started quickly, after some more dodgy defending as Doncaster threatened to hit the self distruct button. With the ball played down the right and crossed to the back post Thirsk and Malton were back level within 10 minutes.

Doncaster re-grouped and pushed Thirsk and Malton back, perhaps feeling aggrieved at 1-1. The advantage was restored with a goal after a blocked shot and Claybourn slotted the goal home.

The clock was ticking down with Doncaster leading and 15 minutes to see out.

After a lapse in concentration Thirsk and Malton were back level with an almost identical goal converted at the far post.

The game had few further chances and ended 2-2, which was a fair reflection on the game although Doncaster left disappointed at leaving the game with a point having led twice.
