Doncaster went into the match with a bare 11 players and had most of the possession in the first ten minutes. Doncaster were awarded a short corner after some neat build up play and Tom Beverley converted from a Russ Saywell one two to take the lead.

York then came back into the game with an equaliser that squeezed past stand-in keeper Jamie Allison at the near post. Things then turned bad for Doncaster when Martin Brown was struck on the ankle with the ball and he had to go off the field for the rest of the game, leaving Doncaster down to ten men for 55 minutes.

Under severe pressure from York, Doncaster conceded a short corner which could arguably been a free hit to Doncaster seconds earlier. York then scored with a classy flick into the top corner. Doncaster struggled to re-group but saw it to half time just 2-1 down.

The second half started competitively and Doncaster were well in the game, although York were catching Doncaster on the break occasionally who were now playing with 3 at the back. Some excellent saves from Allison kept Doncaster in the game, and the battle continued to the end.

Doncaster had a few chances to equalise that got blocked or saved and some offences went unpunished by the umpires. A 2-1 defeat that, with a bit more luck, could have turned out differently.
