Men's Results:

DHC M1 vs Leeds

3-1

Leeds Adel vs DHC M2

2-4
As we continue our promotion pursuit, the 2s travelled to Adel to widen the gap between 2nd and 3rd place. A well worked, flowing move saw donny move the ball around the Adel defence before being squared past the keeper and into the back of the net by Witho. A second goal was needed and came through a deflected finish by Rudkin to double the lead. Adel had a response to this and scored through a well placed drag flick from a PC. Donny replied with their own soon after when Fearny played a great ball to the back post to find G Hensh to make it 3-1.
HT: 3-1
The second half couldn’t have started better for the lads, as Fearny, currently having two assists, wanted one of his own and found the bottom right corner with a powerful strike from the top D. Doncaster could have scored several more with best chances coming from a G Hensh and Goodwin open net miss. Doncaster’s dominate performance was cut short moments before full time when Adel got one back but wasn’t enough for a comeback.

DHC M4 vs Sheffield Uni Bankers

6-0
The 4s welcomed Sheff Uni Bankers 5s (SUB5) to the JSM on a bright, sunny and warm day (19 degrees) hoping to do the double over them and keep the Great Escape alive another week.
Doncaster knew they had to start quickly however, it was the visitors who won a penalty flick 5 minutes into the game (ball hit defender on way towards goal).
The SUB5 striker was unable to take advantage, keeper Dickerson keeping the flick out.
This lifted the home side, and 13 minutes into the game, the hosts won a penalty corner, which was eventually scored by Fotheringham.
SUB5 tried to get onto parity ASAP but hit the post. The ball cleared straight up field by Henderson, who managed to get up with play, relieved a return pass, and scored to make it 2-0.
SUB5 were visible shaken by this and seemed to have the energy tucked out of them as Doncaster passed the ball around, making the pitch as big as possible, making the hosts run around in the heat.
Doncaster won another penalty corner, and this was scored by Harris.
Half-time 3-0
The half-time talk was an easier one than normal with the emphasis on not settling and trying to defender the score and invite pressure, keep up the ball pace, and enjoy it.
E West seemed to take this as personal instructions scoring a fast flowing goal straight from the SUB5 push back, the ball intercepted, and West was released to score 40 seconds from the restart.
10 minutes later, West scored his second following another good passing counterattack.
2 Greens in quick succession saw Doncaster down to 10 men twice, both times Doncaster were resilient in defence clearances from both Potts brothers, Brown, Burtoft, and Henderson following good saves from Dickerson.
As the next match players, officials, and supporters arrived, Fearn rounded off the goals with a keep uppy followed by a lobbed volley over the approaching keeper.
Full-time Doncaster 6 SUB5 0.
For the 4s to avoid relegation, they have to win every game and hope results go their way, 2 more games against lower table opposition await, but first, an away trip to league leaders Lindum 3 next weekend.

Ladies Results:

DHC L1 vs Leeds
0-4
The ladies had a disappointing start to their game against Leeds, conceding within 30 seconds. Leeds set the tempo of the game and the girls struggled for the first quarter. They then took the game to Leeds and played some good hockey and grew in to the game. Unfortunately the result didn’t reflect the performance and they lost 4-0

Brigg vs DHC L2

0-3
On Saturday, Doncaster ladies 2s travelled to Brigg hoping to bag another three points.
The game started with Brigg attacking Doncaster’s goal. Unfortunately for Doncaster, a poor umpiring decision led to a series of consecutive defending short corners. But despite this, Doncaster held strong and defended well getting the ball out to their attacking players. Doncaster counter-attacked quickly and won a short corner up the other end of the pitch. This led to Doncaster‘s first goal at 12 minutes in. Thorpy received the injection at the top of the D and fired the ball straight into the backboard past the keeper. Taking Doncaster 1-0 up!
Following this, Doncaster continue to attack Briggs goal with their defence making some valiant efforts to counter Doncaster’s attack.
Doncaster started the second half strong, however Brigg came back fighting, but a push forward from Brigg saw Doncaster’s defence back in the goal defending another short corner.Anne ran first and cleared the ball to Hattie who passed square to Neve, who hit the ball up the pitch to Lexie… She then drove the ball and passed off to Erin who took the shot on goal, hitting the ball straight past the keeper to make the score 2-0. Just 5 minutes later Doncaster managed to get their third goal, Neve carrying the ball into the D and pushed the ball into the goal through the keepers legs, solidifying Doncaster’s lead.
Brigg didn’t give up and carried on defending Doncaster’s many advances on their goal, managing to get in a few attacks themselves but keeper Jess and the defensive line were able to keep them at bay and kept a clean sheet this week.
Another great result and 3 points for the ladies 2s!

DHC L3 vs Hull Uni
5-0
It was an interesting game for the ladies 3s this week, with an opposition of only 7 players! To try and make the game more enjoyable for the opposition, Hull conceded the game and in good sporting spirit, Doncaster loaned across two players making the game much more even. Although the win was guaranteed, Doncaster played some brilliant hockey resulting in a first half hattrick for R Clish and a well worked goal for E Woodhouse. The final goal was claimed by B Maxfield.
Although this wasn't the game the girls had anticipated, it provided some great learning and practise opportunities which we cam take into our last games of the season!

DHC L4 vs Chesterfield

1-2
Doncaster started the game well with good pressure on the Chesterfield defence. Eleanor, Michaela, Jane and Saffy were able to ping the ball into space which the forwards could run onto, but they couldn’t quite find the room in the D to shoot at goal. Chesterfield then mounted a few isolated attacks and won a couple of short corners. The defence held firm and cleared the ball finding players to mount another attack. After 14 minutes there was a series of tackles on the 25 yard line and the ball broke free to Sue on the edge of the D who caught it on the half volley and fired it into the back of the net. Several chances followed with Pat just unable to guide the ball into the net. It remained 1-0 at half time.
The 2nd half followed the same pattern. Doncaster mounting attacks but unable to score and Chesterfield threading the ball through to players who could then threaten the Doncaster goal. Kerry marshalled the defence well. After 10 minutes they got a lucky break with the ball heading towards a free Chesterfield player, who then shot and the ball slowly bounced into the Doncaster goal. The home team then worked hard to keep possesion with Saffy controlling midfield and making strong runs towards the attacking D. Sophie continued to make great runs down the right wing and did well to get the ball into the D. Short corners were won but no sign of a goal. 2 minutes from the end Sue rotated back on from the bench and won a short corner, final whistle sounded and everyone surrounds the D. Sue shoots and it hits a Chesterfield foot, short corner awarded again. Saffy hits out firmly, Sue strikes, goalkeeper kicks, Sue deflects the ball to Lulu who strikes the ball into the back of the net. A 2-1 win that was well deserved.
