Doncaster L1 v Lindum 1

A convincing first home win of the season as five different goal scorers helped Doncaster to an impressive 5–1 victory over Lindum.
Connie C opened the scoring in trademark fashion, producing a fantastic carry down the baseline, eliminating multiple defenders before calmly slotting the ball home.
Australian Liv J continued her excellent start to life at Doncaster, pressing perfectly to steal possession high up the pitch before smashing home her second goal of the season.
Becca H, Alice J and Elise R also found the net, with all three new additions making their mark on an excellent team performance.
Doncaster’s press took another big step forward, making it extremely difficult for Lindum to outlet and allowing Doncaster to repeatedly regain possession high up the pitch and create opportunities.
There is still work to do on our penalty corners and transferring the ball quicker around the back to find our half-backs in space — two areas we’ll take into Tuesday’s training.

Doncaster L2 v SUBHC 2

Doncaster Ladies 2s played their first home game of the season against a strong, experienced Sheffield Banker’s team.
The Doncaster girls dominated the game from the off, pressing their defence and winning the ball high up the pitch.
Despite the constant flurries of attacks and the high number of D entries, we went into the half time break all square at 0-0.
After half time, the girls continued their pressure on Bankers and winning multiple short corners. Eventually, N.Cleland converted a short corner making the score line 1-0. S.Dent then tapped home a great cross to end the game with a score line of 2-0.
The girls played an outstanding game of hockey, totally dominating the game with only 1 shot on goal from Bankers. We take this positive result into next week when we face Selby away.
Well done to all the ladies this week!

Phoenix v Doncaster L3

Doncaster Ladies 3s put in a brilliant performance against Phoenix, coming away with an impressive 5–0 victory in a match full of attacking hockey, great teamwork and some excellent goalkeeping.
The game got off to a lively start, with Phoenix earning an early short corner. Doncaster soon settled into their rhythm, and on 10:24, Seana played a great pass into the circle, setting up Woody to open the scoring and put Doncaster 1–0 up.
Just minutes later, Doncaster doubled their advantage. A DHC short corner created another opportunity, with Woody finding the back of the net again — this time squeezing the ball through the goalkeeper's legs to make it 2–0.
Phoenix looked to respond and earned a short corner, but Binnie was equal to the challenge, making an excellent save to keep Doncaster's clean sheet intact. She followed it up with another great save shortly afterwards, giving the team confidence at the back.
After the break, Doncaster came out flying. At 10:50, Hannah played a fantastic ball into the circle, which Hollie expertly converted to make it 3–0.
Just two minutes later, Seana found Woody, who completed her hat-trick and put Doncaster firmly in control at 4–0.
Doncaster continued to press, creating further chances and earning more short corners. Phoenix also had opportunities from set pieces, but the Doncaster defence remained strong and Binnie continued to provide a safe pair of hands in goal.
The pressure finally paid off again at 11:17, when Hollie grabbed her second of the game to round off a fantastic team performance and make the final score 5–0.
It was a superb display from Doncaster Ladies 3s, with goals coming from Woody (3) and Hollie (2), backed up by some excellent work from Hannah and Seana, strong defensive play and brilliant saves from Binnie.

M2
Durham Uni 3 v Doncaster M2

The 2s took a bare 11 up to Durham for a dreaded 4pm pushback. Off the back of a 3-1 win against Harrogate the lads were confident going into the game.
The first quarter saw a balance of possession with chances at both ends. Unfortunately it would be Durham to break the deadlock with a breakaway chance.
Quarter 2 saw Durham double there lead despite Doncaster arguably being the stronger side.
HT: 2-0
Tired legs lead to a half court press which we managed to execute well. Counter attacking hockey saw us with huge opportunities to get back into the game but luck wasn’t on our side. A counterattack of their own had Durham take their lead to 3 after some confusion at the back.
The final quarter saw us apply significantly more pressure as we had nothing to lose. It was our best quarter of hockey and was rewarded with a G Hensh goal from a Cal Hartley assist to get us back into the game. Unfortunately it was too little too late and the points were snatched up by the home side.

Plenty of positives to take into next week as we face Whitley Bay at home!

Doncaster M4 v Barnsley 1

The Doncaster Hockey Club 4s welcomed Barnsley Hockey Club 1s for a competitive fixture, with the home side looking to build on the progress of a new and youthful squad.

Barnsley opened the scoring in the first half, but Doncaster responded well and continued to create opportunities going forward. The pressure eventually paid off, with Felix Cameron finishing off a move following good work from Cam Deakin to bring Doncaster level.
The teams went into half-time level at 1–1, with plenty of positives for Doncaster to take from the opening 35 minutes.
The second half saw Barnsley manage to find the breakthrough and add two further goals to take the final score to 3–1. Despite the result, there were plenty of encouraging signs from the Doncaster side, particularly in the way the new young team is beginning to gel.
Doncaster looked dangerous going forward throughout the game and showed plenty of promise as the players continue to develop their understanding and combinations on the pitch. There is a clear sense that this group will only improve as the season progresses and more game time is put together.
A tough result, but plenty of positives to take from the performance.
The 4s now look ahead to next week, when they travel away to Brigg, looking to build on today's performance and continue the team's development.

Match report Sunday 20th September

Doncaster M1 v Lindum 1

Tough start for a new look men’s 1St team at home against an ever-strong Lindum side. It ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat in a competitive game.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. With five new players settling into the squad, the team showed good character, work rate, and togetherness throughout the match. Showing promising signs for the rest of the year.
The game was closely contested, with both sides being limited to very few opportunities, most notably for Doncaster Matt Gibson having a short corner saved off the line. Unfortunately, we were unable to find the back of the net and conceded the only goal of the game, which ultimately proved decisive. Mention to Max Davidson who made crucial saves to keep us in the game.
Credit must go to the five debutants, who all stepped up and made a positive contribution in their first appearances. Confirmed by Harry Higgins who received man of the match on his first outing for Doncaster. They all showed plenty of promise and will only continue to grow as they become more familiar with their teammates and the way we want to play.
