Match reports Saturday 31st October

L1
Doncaster L1 v Newcastle Uni W3
1 : 0

Doncaster secured another important three points with a convincing 1–0 victory over Newcastle University 3s, keeping the pressure on the teams above them in the league.
Doncaster made a strong start, with Ellie O breaking the deadlock in the first quarter. A well-executed penalty corner saw Ellie fire a superb strike inside the left post to give Doncaster an early lead.
From there, Doncaster dominated proceedings, controlling possession, creating numerous circle entries and winning multiple penalty corners. Newcastle struggled to create opportunities, with Beth B barely called into action throughout the game.
Despite the dominance, Doncaster couldn’t find the finishing touch to extend their lead. Plenty of chances came and went, with converting opportunities inside the circle proving the biggest frustration of the afternoon.
The positives were clear — another strong team performance, three valuable points and a well-deserved clean sheet for Beth and the defence.
However, the focus now turns to improving our attacking outcomes, with Tuesday’s training dedicated to goalscoring and converting chances.
DONCASTER 1–0 NEWCASTLE UNI 3s
Goal scorer: Ellie O
Clean sheet: Beth B
NEXT UP | DURHAM UNI 4s (AWAY)
Doncaster will look to build on back-to-back victories when they travel to Durham next weekend.

L2
Doncaster L2 v Slazengers W1
2 : 0

From the first whistle, Doncaster looked in control, dominating possession and dictating the pace of the game. The team moved the ball confidently, creating plenty of attacking opportunities and testing the Slazengers defence with multiple shots on target. Despite the pressure, Slazengers proved difficult to break down.
After the break, Doncaster continued where they left off and were quickly rewarded for their efforts. A well-worked passage of play created the opportunity for a short corner, which was converted by G.Arnold to give Doncaster a deserved 1-0 lead.
With confidence building, Doncaster continued to apply pressure and soon earned another short corner. This time it was N. Cleland who stepped up, converting to double the advantage and put Doncaster firmly in control at 2-0.
A dominant team performance, two well-taken short corners and another clean sheet make it a great result for the Ladies 2s, who remain unbeaten so far this season!
Final score: Doncaster Ladies 2s 2–0 Slazengers

L3
Chesterfield v Doncaster L3
3 : 3

Doncaster travelled to Chesterfield for an entertaining and hard-fought encounter that saw plenty of attacking hockey, some excellent goalkeeping and a dramatic second-half finish.
Chesterfield got off to a flying start, opening the scoring just two minutes into the match. However, Donny wasted no time responding, with Eleanor producing a fantastic finish from midfield just two minutes later to bring the scores level at 1–1.
Doncaster quickly built momentum, putting Chesterfield under pressure and winning two short corners in the opening stages. The Donny attack continued to look dangerous, with some good pressure and a well-worked move leading to a shot on goal.
Chesterfield also threatened, with a good run from Saffy, but Donny continued to press. Their efforts paid off in the 25th minute when Holly unleashed a powerful strike from the top of the D to put Donny 2–1 ahead.
Binny was then called into action at the other end, producing a fantastic save to keep Donny in front. Just three minutes later, Donny extended their lead. Eleanor delivered an excellent cross into the D, which Hannah finished superbly to make it 3–1.
Donny went into half-time with a two-goal advantage after an impressive first-half performance.
The second half began with an early short corner against Donny, which was dealt with. Chesterfield came out strongly after the break, but Binny was on hand to make another important save and keep Donny’s advantage intact.
Donny soon found themselves back in the Chesterfield half, applying plenty of pressure. A short corner gave Woody an opportunity, but her shot narrowly missed the target.
Despite another initial save from Binny, Chesterfield managed to pull a goal back around ten minutes into the second half, making it 3–2.

Chesterfield then pushed forward, and despite Donny dropping back to defend, they found a way through to score and bring the match level at 3–3.
Donny were quick to respond, creating another shot on goal and continuing to pile on the pressure. Another short corner followed, but once again the conversion proved elusive.
Woody produced a great effort which was met by an excellent save from the Chesterfield goalkeeper. Donny continued to win short corners as they searched for a winner. One opportunity had to be retaken after the injector broke early, but another fantastic save denied Donny again.
A further short-corner opportunity also went unconverted, despite Donny’s continued determination to find a late winner.
Chesterfield briefly threatened on the counter-attack, but Donny cleared the danger. In the final play of the match, Hannah was taken out as both teams battled right until the final whistle.

Doncaster L4 Game cancelled

M2
Sheffield 2 v Doncaster M2
1 : 3

Doncaster 2s faced bottom-of-the-league Sheffield 2s, hoping to spoil the Sheff Super Saturday and that’s exactly what we did!
Things didn’t get off to the best start as a Sheffield breakaway resulted in an open-goal finish, despite an excellent initial save from Bradders in goal. However, the 2s responded quickly, with Kieran finding the net to level things up.
The second quarter saw complete dominance from Doncaster, as Kieran grabbed his second before Redders added another to put the 2s firmly in control at 3-1.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with Doncaster dominating possession and creating attacking opportunities but unfortunately unable to add to the scoreline. At the other end, defensive excellence ensured Sheffield couldn’t find a way back into the game and the 2s took all 3 points.
FT 3-1 Win.

M3
Doncaster M3 v Aire Valley 1Sheffield 3
2 : 1

M4
Slazenger 2 v Doncaster M4
8 : 0

Doncaster HC 4s faced a formidable challenge on the road this weekend, traveling to take on league leaders Slazengers in what was always expected to be a demanding fixture.
Doncaster started the match brightly, showing real intent and energy in the opening stages. However, the top-of-the-table hosts gradually grew into the game, utilizing their experience and pressure to take control of the contest.
While Doncaster carved out chances of their own, they were ultimately unable to capitalize in front of goal. In contrast, Slazengers showcased their clinical edge, converting their opportunities efficiently to seal an 8-0 victory.
Despite the scoreline, Doncaster will look to take the positive spells from the early stages of the match into their next fixture.

M5
Doncaster M5 v Acomb 2
0 : 4

The M5 had the graveyard shift game for Halloween. After a brush with defeat last week the team were looking for better against Acomb.
After sweeping up early attacks like a witch with a broom a shot on target hit a Donny foot and the umpire like the grim reaper pointed for a penalty stroke. Like a stake through the heart Donny were 1-0 down as it was slotted in.
Next an Acomb player appeared like a phantom from the shadows to break like a bat out of hell for 2-0
At half time Steve H gave some (penny)wise advice that we had played like zombies at times and we needed to show our fangs and bite more in the 2nd half .
Donny were more organised but the Acomb D was still a graveyard for shots .
An Acomb attack led to their striker Wolfie ghosting in to the D - the Donny defence shouted where's Wolfie but it was too late and it was 3-0.
Acomb then had a run of short corners the Donny defence like five Jason’s from Friday the 13th held out until a low shot made it 4-0.
It wasn’t a total Nightmare on Bennetthorpe and the team were still in great spirits.

Match reports Sunday 1st November

The game proved to be a competitive contest, with both sides showing attacking intent and looking to take control. Doncaster battled throughout the game and managed to find the net twice through M. Gibson, showing their determination to stay in the game. However Deeside proved clinical in front of goal, taking advantage of their opportunities.
