Leeds 2 v Doncaster 1
0 : 2
The game opened with an end-to-end first quarter as Doncaster worked to find early rhythm against a well-organised and disciplined Leeds 2s side.
As the second quarter began, Doncaster gradually grew into the match, increasing their pressure and gaining more control. The breakthrough came from a well-executed short corner, finished confidently by Connie, giving Doncaster a deserved 1–0 lead. From there, the team began to dominate possession and dictate the tempo, with Abi — later named Player of the Match — central to the improved control and fluency.
Quarter three followed a similar pattern, with Doncaster enjoying long spells of possession and producing some excellent team play. Despite creating numerous chances, the lead remained at one, thanks in part to Beth, whose outstanding goalkeeping kept Doncaster ahead with several crucial saves.
By the final quarter, the sustained pressure finally told. Doncaster controlled the period superbly, moving the ball with confidence and keeping Leeds 2s pinned inside their own half. The second goal eventually came, calmly finished by Bea, securing a well-earned 2–0 victory.
A composed and professional performance, with Doncaster growing stronger as the game progressed and taking another valuable three points.

Doncaster 2 v University of Leeds
0 : 6
Doncaster Ladies 2s wrapped up their final home game before Christmas with a tough fixture against a well-drilled Leeds University side. Leeds started strongly, applying early pressure and converting their chances with clinical finishing to build a solid lead.
Despite the growing score line, Doncaster showed real determination, working hard to break up play in midfield and pushing forward whenever opportunities arose. Their resilience was clear, but Leeds’ pace and accuracy proved difficult to contain throughout the match.
A major highlight for Doncaster was the outstanding performance from goalkeeper Jess, who produced multiple crucial saves and kept the team steady under pressure. Her efforts earned her a thoroughly deserved Player of the Match award.
While the result wasn’t what Doncaster hoped for, the team showed spirit and commitment right to the final whistle, heading into the Christmas break ready to regroup and return stronger in the new year.
Player of the Match: Jess (GK)

Epworth v Doncaster 3
5 : 2
Doncaster Ladies 3s put in a spirited and determined performance against Epworth, but ultimately fell to a 5–2 defeat in what was far tighter a contest than the scoreline suggests.
The first half saw Doncaster on the front foot, creating wave after wave of attacking opportunities. The pressure was relentless at times, but despite carving out several clear chances, the final touch proved elusive. Epworth, meanwhile, were clinical on the break, taking a 2–0 lead into half-time. The deficit could have been greater if not for a series of outstanding saves from goalkeeper Binnie, who produced multiple point-blank stops to keep Doncaster firmly in the contest.
Epworth started the second half quickly, adding two more goals to stretch their lead. But Doncaster refused to let the game slip away. Their persistence paid off when Amy converted from a well-worked short corner, sparking new energy into the side. Around ten minutes later, Paige found the net with a composed finish, narrowing the score to 4–2 and giving Doncaster real momentum as they pushed forward.
However, as Doncaster chased the game, Epworth managed to grab a fifth goal before full-time, putting the result beyond reach.
Despite the loss, Doncaster’s overall performance was a strong one—full of effort, creativity, and determination. The main difference on the day was simply the ability to convert chances.
Player of the Match went to Sophie, whose excellent work rate and consistent quality stood out from start to finish.
A tough result, but plenty of positives to take into the next fixture.

Chapeltown 2 v Doncaster L4
0 : 4
Doncaster travelled to Chapeltown in the rain and mist with just 11 players. It seemed a daunting task but we started the game with intent, won the ball from a Chapeltown pushback, and put the pressure on the opposition defence immediately. Lauren and Seana worked tirelessly in centre midfield to control the game and were able to set up numerous shooting opportunities in the D. At first, the Chapeltown defence held firm and were able to make strong tackles and firm hits towards the half way line, but again the Doncaster midfield soaked up the pressure. Libby and Sophie kept the width as wing halves and were successful in making sure that different options were on. After 12 minutes the continual pressure led to a short corner. Saffy hit out, Kerry stopped the ball and slipped it back to Saffy on the near post, who then slotted it in to the back of the net. More short corners followed but Doncaster couldn’t quite get goal number 2. It was the Doncaster defence turn to step up. Rotherham made several forays into the Doncaster half but Grace and Jill were able to stop them getting too close to the D, and hits that slipped through, Kerry trapped and cleared. Just before half time Jill put in a firm tackle and cleared the ball to Libby, a slick pass to Helen on the wing and a pass to Saffy running into space meant that Saffy could use some nimble stickwork to get round the defender and take a hard shot at goal. 2-0 at half time seemed fair!
The second half saw much of the same. Doncaster taking control of midfield and setting up attacking moves and Chapeltown counter-attacking. Seana and Saffy made numerous skilful runs with the ball and Lauren was composed on the ball making her passes count. The Chapeltown wings found it hard to get past Libby and Sophie, so Heather saw little action in goal. 2 Chapeltown goals were disallowed, a foot enroute, so it wasn’t totally one-sided. After 15 minutes Seana made a penetrating run into the D and rifled a shot in to make it 3-0. Just over 10 minutes later the Chapeltown keeper was under pressure from a barrage of shots but it was Saffy who was able to pick up a rebound and slot in goal number 4. Chapeltown didn’t give up and continued to attack, but Grace and Jill stayed composed with Kerry clearing successfully. Any shots by now were well wide of the post. With Helen making her debut in the team this was a well rounded performance, especially with only 11 players. A hat-trick by Saffy and a clean sheet, a great day for Doncaster.

Doncaster M2 v Leeds 2
2 : 6
This week saw Donny host Leeds at home in the harsh Yorkshire conditions. Despite early chances and domination in spells, Leeds were to break the deadlock in the first quarter. With no reply from the home side, Leeds then raced into a 3–0 lead by the end of the second quarter and into half time.
Doncaster showed real character and resilience after the break and were rewarded when a penalty corner that was dispatched by Cuffers, dragging the score back to 3–1 and giving the 2s a way back into the game. Unfortunately, Leeds responded swiftly, restoring their dominance with two quick goals to extend the lead to 5–1, headed into the final quarter.
Doncaster refused to fold and produced a sharp breakaway chance that found Luke Goodwin alone in the D, who calmly flicked the ball into the side netting to make it 5–2.
At the other end, Tom Bradley produced a series of excellent saves in goal to keep Doncaster in the contest, denying Leeds on multiple occasions and preventing the score line from extending. However, indiscipline saw the lads down a player and Leeds capitalised to finish the game with a final goal of their own. FT: 2-6
Despite a disappointing score line, there are positives to take into the last game before the Christmas break away at Leeds Adel, which is a must win game if Doncaster wish to survive this league.

Lindum 3 v Doncaster M3
4 : 1
Doncaster men’s 3s travelled to Lincoln for a late start at 4:30pm in the pouring rain. Doncaster looking to get a win against Lindum after a strong performance the week before.
The first half saw a pretty even affair with Doncaster scoring first through W Harris, who deflected the ball past the keeper. The lead was short lived and Doncaster conceded 2 just before half time.
Doncaster went awol in the second half with Lindum taking advantage scoring a further 2 and having plenty of chances.
Not the result Doncaster wanted, nor one to dwell on going into the final game before the Xmas break.

Doncaster M4 v Lindum 4
1 : 0
For the second consecutive week, Doncaster 4s took to the field under the lights, welcoming Lindum in a bid to extend their impressive run of form.
The match began brightly, with both sides showing early intent—until the pitch was unexpectedly plunged into darkness just ten minutes in. A timer mishap cut the lights, prompting umpire P Revitt to sprint to the clubhouse to reset the system, reportedly outpacing anyone on the pitch. After a short delay, play resumed with both teams looking to settle into a rhythm.
The first half developed into a tight, end-to-end contest. Both Doncaster and Lindum carved out opportunities but neither could seize control or find a breakthrough. The teams went into the interval level at 0–0.
Doncaster emerged for the second half with renewed purpose, finally beginning to dictate play and create sustained pressure. Their efforts were rewarded when a well-worked passage of play earned a short corner. A Fearny stepped up and delivered, flicking the ball home to give Doncaster a deserved 1–0 lead.
With the advantage secured, Doncaster continued to frustrate Lindum, whose rising tempers were expertly managed by the experienced umpiring team of Ali March and Pete Revitt, maintaining control and allowing the game to flow. Much improved game management and disciplined defending allowed Doncaster to see out the match and preserve their clean sheet.
Full-time: Doncaster 4s 1–0 Lindum

Brigg 4 v Doncaster 5
0 : 1
Doncaster Men’s 5s ground out a well-earned 1–0 victory away at Brigg in a late push-back played under persistent rain and floodlights—conditions that made the result even more satisfying.
Despite the weather, Doncaster settled first and produced the better passing hockey throughout the opening stages. Their early pressure paid off in the 10th minute when R Housham, controlling the midfield effectively, slipped a precise pass into the D for A Green, who finished calmly to give Doncaster a deserved lead.
Chances to extend the advantage came through two short corners, but neither could be converted, leaving the game finely poised at half-time.
Brigg responded strongly after the break, lifting their intensity and creating a dangerous moment when a ball flashed just wide of the back post. Doncaster’s defence, however, stood firm. J Shepard marshalled the back line with composure, while O Jones, still new to senior-level hockey, delivered an impressive performance—reading the game well, challenging confidently and showing clear signs of rapid progression. Together with the rest of the defensive unit, they absorbed pressure and broke down numerous Brigg attacks.
Further up the pitch, I Green and J Housham combined effectively, using movement and link-up play to relieve pressure and carve out opportunities as Doncaster looked to reassert control late on.
The match closed out with Doncaster maintaining discipline, working intelligently off the ball and securing a fully deserved three points. A gritty away performance built on teamwork, defensive resolve and smart hockey in difficult conditions.

Doncaster M1 v Neston
1 : 3
The last game of 2025 rolled around as we welcomed Neston to Town Fields in the North
Conference. The sun shone (as it always does in Doncaster) and the crowd gathered for what promised to be a good game between two sides in the top half of the table.
The game started at a decent pace with both sides wanting to get on the front foot and open the scoring. Unfortunately, the visitors did so with a deflection from a crash ball in the first quarter.
The game then remained 0-1 for some time, despite both teams having chances to score from field goal and penalty corner opportunities.
A good move from Doncaster in Q3 resulted in a penalty stroke to the home side. Strangely, Neston missed a stroke in the away leg earlier in the season, an unfortunately Doncaster didn’t convert from the spot. There’s fine margins at this level and Neston, buoyed by a missed stroke, went up the other end and scored a few minutes later.
Doncaster brought the game back within reach after a converted penalty corner, but again, the visitors managed to repel the home team and answered our goal with another goal of their own.
Sadly, the game was just out of reach for us this time and lapses in defensive concentration and basic skills in attack cost us dearly.
17 points from the first phase of the season, which is probably a couple of points down on where I’d like us to be, but a good start nonetheless. The lads have worked tremendously since July and now will enjoy a well deserved rest.
