It’s always a tough trip to Stokesley, and Doncaster came away on the wrong side of a 3–1 result after a challenging first half.
Stokesley’s slightly unorthodox style caused problems early on, with two quick penalty corners putting Doncaster 2–0 behind in the first quarter. A third goal just before half-time left Doncaster with a mountain to climb.
But the response after the break was excellent.
The second half was largely controlled by Doncaster, who played with far more confidence and began to create opportunities. A goal brought the score back to 3–1 and Doncaster continued pushing for a second, winning penalty corners and forcing some good saves from the Stokesley goalkeeper.
Ultimately, Doncaster just couldn’t find enough outcomes inside the circle to turn the pressure into goals.
A disappointing result, but plenty to learn from and a really positive second-half response from the group.

Doncaster Ladies 3s put in a fantastic all-round performance at home to Sheffield, securing a well-deserved 3–0 victory in a game full of energy, teamwork and determination.
Doncaster started brightly and took the lead in the 9th minute. A great attacking move saw Seana pass to Hollie, who found Woody, and Woody calmly finished to put Doncaster 1–0 ahead.
Doncaster continued to apply pressure and earned their first short corner shortly afterwards, but Sheffield managed to keep the effort out. Doncaster continued to look dangerous going forward, and their pressure paid off again in the 17th minute. From another short corner, Gemma found Priya at the back post, and Priya finished brilliantly to double Doncaster's advantage and make it 2–0.
Sheffield looked to respond and created opportunities of their own, but Doncaster's defence remained strong.
Doncaster went into half-time with a deserved 2–0 lead.
The second half began with both teams battling hard, producing an exciting period of end-to-end hockey. Sheffield pushed forward looking for a way back into the game, but Doncaster remained organised and continued to create chances.
In the 49th minute, Doncaster goalkeeper Binnie produced an outstanding save, denying Sheffield and keeping Doncaster's clean sheet intact. It was an important moment that maintained the team's two-goal advantage.
Doncaster continued to press and were rewarded with another short corner in the 62nd minute. Woody stepped up once again and found the back of the net, scoring her second of the afternoon and putting Doncaster firmly in control at 3–0.
Doncaster were awarded two further short corners late in the game, but no goals were scored.
The final whistle confirmed a 3–0 win for Doncaster Ladies 3s.
It was a fantastic full-team performance, with every player contributing and the team working brilliantly together from start to finish. Strong attacking play, excellent defensive organisation and some superb goalkeeping combined to produce a thoroughly deserved clean-sheet victory.

Doncaster L4 v SUBHC 4

Bankers started the game strongly, winning tackles and 50/50 balls, and were able to penetrate the Doncaster D with purpose. It took the Home side a good 5 minutes to adjust to the pace of the game and then they settled. The defence and midfield combined well and were able to control the middle of the pitch. Once the forwards were brought into the game the chances started to come. After 10 minutes Sofia was brought on in midfield. With an attack down the right and all players drawn over, the ball was fired across the pitch to Sofia in acres of space and she was able to find the back of the net with her first touch. The next goal came with a long ball threaded through by Pat. Sue had a 25 yard chase to pick the ball up just outside the D and shot past the stationary goalkeeper. Half time.
The second half was an open game. When Bankers attacked though, Izzy, Jill and Kerry were able to intercept and time tackles perfectly to regain possession. Laura-May was in control of the midfield and used Phoebe, Soph and Lucia to make forward passes. Grace and Pat worked hard to create space and carry the ball into dangerous positions. This then gave Libby room to run onto a ball at the top of the D and score a lovely well struck goal. Heather made some great saves in goal and her decisive runs out meant she kept a clean sheet for over 50 minutes. Unfortunately, a Bankers short corner led to a skirmish on the goal line and they sneaked the ball over the line. A few minutes later though Doncaster won a short corner themselves and retaliated with a firm strike into the goal by Laura-May. A solid performance and a 4-1 win. A great start to the season.

Doncaster M2 v Whitley Bay & Tynemouth 1

The 2s welcomed Whitley Bay & Tynemouth 1s this week, looking to bounce back after last weekend’s defeat.
We got off to the perfect start, with Trav opening the scoring with a powerful drag flick to put the travelling side on the back foot. We continued to control the game and eventually doubled our lead, with a well worked squared ball once again finished off by Trav.
Whitley Bay responded with a penalty corner of their own, bringing the score back to 2-1. However, the setback didn’t change our approach, and Trav completed his hat-trick with a composed finish to restore our two goal advantage.
The second half saw the 2s continue to dominate, applying constant pressure to a tiring Whitley Bay defence. That pressure eventually paid off, with G Hensh finding the back of the net to put the game beyond doubt and secure all three points.

Doncaster Men's 5th XI secured a dramatic last-gasp 2–1 home cup win over Kingston upon Hull.
Doncaster started brightly and took the lead after around 15 minutes, when A. Green converted a penalty corner. The home side controlled the game well from there, with a squad featuring a number of young players, two of whom were making their senior men's debuts.
Against the run of play, Hull found an equaliser shortly before the break, and the teams went in level at 1–1 at half time.
The second half was a real end-to-end contest, with both sides threatening to find the decisive goal. As legs began to tire in the closing minutes, Doncaster drove forward and won a last-minute penalty corner. The ball was slipped right and the shot came in; the keeper made the initial save, but the ball ran loose behind him with a defender on the line. A. Green, having taken the corner, arrived from the left to stab it home. The crowd erupted, and the final whistle followed moments later.
It was a thoroughly deserved win built on a really strong defensive performance. The midfield battled hard throughout, and the forwards worked well together to create chances. Special mention to our two debutants, who can be proud of their first taste of senior men's hockey.

Match report Sunday 27th September

Didsbury 1 vDoncaster M1

The men’s 1’s looked to bounce back after a tough result first game of the season. Travelling to Didsbury away.
Doncaster got off to a flying start piling on the pressure early. Soon into the first quarter E. Whittaker won a penalty corner which was converted by M. Gibson. Doncaster continued to put pressure on Didsbury creating a few chances but unable to convert.
Unfortunately soon into the second quarter Didsbury capitalised on a defensive error making it 1-1. Didsbury built on this goal and started to put the pressure back on Doncaster.
The game was then end to end for the 3rd quarter with Doncaster looking the most likely to score but still not turning this into a goal.
It looked to be heading for a draw until 5 minutes to go when Doncaster converted a well worked corner eventually finished by J. Stoves. However with 2 minutes to go Didsbury found a way back through a lapse in concentration from Doncaster, despite a late chance for Doncaster flashing across goal 2-2 was how it finished.
Shout out to man of the match today, Johnny Powell who played his last game of the season. We all wish him well on his travels.
