Reports on the First team games & all other results

Mixed results again this weekend.

LADIES' 1st XI

Doncaster travelled to the University of Nottingham on Saturday. The hosts started at pace and threatened the Doncaster goal twice very early on in the game. Nottingham took the lead on 16 minutes when a saved shot rebounded to a Nottingham attacker to slot home in the bottom corner. This seemed to spur Doncaster on and after several promising attacks won a short corner which was well worked to find Bexx Woods unmarked to slot home at the back post 1-1. Both teams enjoyed possession and chances in the first half but it was Nottingham who went ahead on 30 minutes when a straight shot from a short corner was cleared several times but Nottingham kept it alive and somehow squeezed the ball between keeper and post. Again Doncaster took the game to the opposition and it was only good defending and goalkeeping that kept the score 2-1 at halftime.

Nottingham extended their lead towards the end of the third quarter with a lovely deflected short corner. Doncaster responded well in the final quarter, creating several good chances but were unable to convert. The game ended 3-1 to University of Nottingham. A fantastic effort by Doncaster against a well equipped University side with a host of international players.

This Saturday the Ladies welcome Sutton Coldfield 1st XI to Town Fields for a 12 pm start. Everyone welcome.

MEN'S 1st XI

Doncaster hosted Yorkshire rivals Wakefield on Sunday. The game started in typical local derby style - play was physical and did not flow freely. Doncaster's men dug deep as the deadlock wasn't broken until the final 4th quarter when, after a good counter-attack, Andy Appleton passed the ball to Travis Creswell in the circle to deflect into the empty net. This shook Wakefield into action and they responded within minutes to make it 1-1. Doncaster, down to 10 men due to a sin bin for Matt Gibson, again on the counter-attack, saw Jonny Powell's shot deflected up into the air to a waiting Alex Kerly, who smashed home the winner with 2 minutes to go.

This Sunday, the men travel to Belper for a 2pm game and look to extend their winning start to the season.
