During the recent half-term break, England’s Under 18 and Under 16 boys and girls squads descended on Lilleshall National Sports Centre for an intensive four-day training camp. This gathering brought together the best young talent from across the country, providing an invaluable opportunity for skill development, team bonding, and preparation for international fixtures. The camp culminated in the first England internationals of the season, with the U18 boys facing off against Ireland. The England U18 boys showcased their depth and ability, fielding strong line-ups throughout the series and securing two victories and a draw against their Irish counterparts.
Amongst the England U18 squad were Doncaster’s Tomo and Ben, who both made a significant impact during the camp and the matches. Their tireless work ethic was evident as they played pivotal roles in the team’s success, contributing to both the win and the draw. The boys embraced the challenge, not only performing impressively on the pitch but also immersing themselves in the camp’s atmosphere and camaraderie. Tomo and Ben could often be seen leading the team in spirited renditions of the national anthem, displaying pride and enthusiasm for representing their country. Their commitment and attitude were praised by coaches and teammates alike, marking them as ones to watch for the future.
With the momentum of these positive results and the experience gained at Lilleshall, Tomo, Ben, and the rest of the England U18 squad are eagerly looking forward to their next competition.
The development opportunities provided by England Hockey’s youth programmes continue to nurture promising talent, ensuring that players like those from Doncaster are well-prepared for future international challenges. Bring on the next competition!
DHC are proud of the boys and look forward to see what comes next.
