Doncaster Hockey Club is celebrating an extraordinary summer of Masters success, with three of its players achieving medals on the world stage playing for England at the 2026 Masters World Championships.

Bethan Burke: Over 35s World Champion (Goalkeeper)
Doncaster’s Bethan Burke delivered a phenomenal tournament as part of the England Over 35s squad, securing gold in Schiedam, Netherlands. As goalkeeper, Bethan was part of a defensive unit that conceded only 2 goals across 7 matches, an extraordinary record at international level.
The team scored 37 goals, showcasing dominance at both ends of the pitch. Bethan’s consistency, calmness under pressure, and world class shot stopping were central to England’s success.

Sue Matthews: Over 70s World Champion
In her first season with the England O70s squad, Sue Matthews helped secure a gold medal after a dramatic final against Australia in Brasschaat, Belgium. The match finished 1–1 at full time, sending the game to penalty flicks—where England held their nerve to win 3–1.
The team played with control, determination, and fully deserved their world title.

Pat Ward: Silver with LX O65s
Doncaster’s Masters success didn’t stop there. Pat Ward earned a silver medal playing for the LX O65s in the Spirit of Masters competition. Their final also featured an Australian opponent—the Australian Spirits Sunset—who won 4–0.
A superb achievement and a testament to Pat’s commitment to Masters hockey.
