Junior / Development Round Up 21/22nd February

Anna Clish24 Feb - 12:00

Read how our younger players got on this weekend.

Saturday 21st February

Doncaster Dev 1 v Doncaster Dev 2

Doncaster development players made two mixed teams red and blue to play one another. The Blue team triumphed over the red team.

Sunday 22nd February

U12B T1 YYHL @ Wakefield

The boys did really well today in a series of very close games.
The opening match against Harrogate ended in an unlucky 1–0 defeat, with chances created but not converted. The response was excellent, bouncing back with a strong 3–1 win over Adel, showing real composure when it mattered.
They started brightly against Sheffield and competed well for most of the game, but after conceding, it was difficult to regain momentum.
The final match against York showed great character. An early, well-taken goal put us ahead, and the energy and determination from every player to protect that lead — if a little nerve-racking at times — was fantastic to see.
Well done to everyone on a great team performance throughout. Thank you John H for helping coach the boys and Rich H for umpiring the games.

U12B T2 YYHL (H)

Absolutely smashed it today. Best we've played all year.
4 wins, a draw and a defeat. We could have won all 6 to be honest as made a lot of chances
If my maths is right, we came second in tournament to Chapteltown, by one point (and we beat them convincingly)
Scored 11 goals in total, including a hat trick from Caspar in one game, with Campbell, Reuben, Will Slack also contributing. Sorry if missed anyone, I lost count!
Some awesome saves from Ethan too, throwing his body all over the place
Big shout out to Imogen and Rain who helped out with the umpiring and Imogen's mum and dad for scoring and timing.

U12G T1 YYHL @ Wakefield

The A Team played in Division 1 at Wakefield and produced a really strong performance ?
Facing some of the league’s top sides, the team showed resilience and quality throughout the day, finishing with one win, one draw, and two narrow defeats.
Every match was closely contested, with fine margins separating the teams, highlighting just how competitive the standard was.
The win was thoroughly deserved, built on disciplined teamwork and determined play. The draw could easily have tipped either way, while the two losses were tight battles that demonstrated the squad’s ability to compete toe-to-toe with some of the division’s strongest opponents.
Overall, a very encouraging day. With performances like this, confidence will be high heading into the next round of fixtures.

U12G T2 YYHL @ Lindum
On a very welcome spring like morning, the under 12s girls B and C teams travelled to Lindum. With 6 games each, the girls were ready for the matches ahead of them. Both teams battled well against the oppositions they faced. The B team, with excellent passing and teamwork, forged 4 wins, 2 draws and registered no losses. The C team also did very well, again working brilliantly together, finishing with 1 win, 3 draws and 2 losses. The 2 losses for the C team, came against the 2 games they played against the B team. Overall a fine performance from both teams, with plenty of goals being scored. Thank you to Hannah for stepping up from the under 10s to go in goal and to Tilly and Rose for also helping in net. Well done girls!

U14G T2 v Leeds Adel
9 : 0

U14 girls T2 played Leeds Adel at home - First quarter we dominated from the start and pinned Leeds back and eventually scored with Quinn gliding past players and GK to score - Quinn then added a second.
2nd quarter asked the girls to try and get ball wider and great wing play from Phoebe resulted in goals for Jess and Amber and Georgie making it 5-0
3rd quarter Leeds started strongly and had lots of possession in our D but Lilian - Emily G and Chloe with Rain in goal kept the clean sheet . Doncaster got back on top and goals from Quinn and Sienna.
4th quarter we were looking for earlier passing and the girls played some great flowing hockey with Sienna scoring two more with missile shots into the corner
Great performance from everyone today - thanks to Andy for helping on the side line and all parents.
9-0 final score with some great hockey and needed boost after the football.

U16B V Slazengers
1 : 0

Despite the late game the return fixture against Slazengers would prove both rewarding and frustrating.
Rewarding
A full squad, always a bonus allowing maestro Luke an opportunity to rest and talk to players.
Full commitment from all players with some excellent individual performances leading at times to the fluid hockey this side are capable of.
A positive and pleasant attitude throughout.
Frustrating
Lapsing into crash ball hockey
Occasional need by some to carry the ball into contact .
The game itself was a closely fought contest with both goalkeepers showing their best at times lead to a nil each stalemate at half time. Midway into the second half a very nice passing move lead to Slazengers opening the scoring. This lead to a step up in effort from the DHC squad resulting in numerous chances being created and despite some resilient defending an equaliser from the current goal machine Sam.
One each with around ten minutes and both sides decided winning was the only way forward. Sadly the chances created could not be converted. A draw after 70 minutes of full on hockey being the result.
Squad , Matt, Endo, Jonsey, Will , Jayden, Ollie, George, Felix, Giles, Cam, Lusca, Sam, Oli W, Dicko.
