Junior / Development Round Up - 18th/19th October

Anna Clish21 Oct - 18:50

Read how our younger players got on this weekend.

Saturday 18th October

Doncaster D1 v Sheffield
1 : 1
Well done to all. It was a good game v Sheffield 1-1 draw Jess with the goal . Lots of younger players and some debuts who all did really well . Some good hockey throughout - we just need to try and get more out of all the entries into the D - no short corners all game so something to work on for next game .

Wakefield v Doncaster D2
5 : 0
Well. Where to begin with the match report for the Wakefield game today?
SuperBart and Kirk were the only adults for a start, they were not expecting to have to actually run around (hot bath, ibuprofen and beer required).
We had a young squad of just 11 players too, so everybody had to put a shift in.
We did very well to hold the game to 1-0 for a long time, but late in the 2nd half as we tired, they bumped the score up to 5-0.
Our kids put a proper shift in though. Ren (the wall) in goal was absolutely incredible. It was like the Alamo but he saved so many. He received Player of the Match.
Evelyn - who is new to DHC was fantastic in midfield, very silky on the ball and took most improved player. Welcome to the club!
Goon of the game surprisingly went to Kirk again, for the 95th time.

Sunday 19th October

U18B
Doncaster U18B v Tynedale
14 : 0

Doncaster boys under 18s began their National Cup campaign with a convincing 14 - 0 win over a spirited Tynedale side.
After a frustrating goalless 15 minutes Pickles calmed any nerves when he fired home from a penalty corner. And that opened the floodgates with further goals from Besnon, 2, Penk, Wheeldon and Wilson added before half-time.
In the second half the one way traffic continued with more goals from Wilson 3, Penk, Wheeldon, Benson, Goodwin and Baughan-Withington taking the final tally to 14.
To their credit, the young Tynedale side never stopped trying but the Doncaster rear guard were determined to keep their clean sheet intact.
The next round will be on the 9th November with the draw being made next week.

U18G
Leeds Adel v Doncaster U18G
0 : 9
Dominant Doncaster in 9–0 Victory

Sunday saw the team have to wake early and make it over to Leeds Adel to play the first round in the U18s Girl Cup. In a stunning display of skill, teamwork, and relentless pressure, the Girls U18 walked off happy with a 8–0 victory.
The team wasted no time asserting control, keeping control of the ball and playing excellent hockey which led to Erin hitting the post early on following great work down the wing. Crisp passing and excellent ball carries from the midfield led to excellent chances for Holly and Connie F with the crowd thinking it was going to be one of those days when the ball doesn't find the back of the net.
Eventually after several short corners and efforts on goal the ball trickled into the net with Erin scoring the first of her 4 goals. opening the scoring after 17 mins and completing her hat trick within 8 mins. Connie F scored the 4th goal just before half time finish off another great move down the wing by Connie C.
In the second half Doncaster continued to dominate, playing excellent hockey using both wings, constant running and efforts on goal. Led to further goals for Erin, Holly, Leah, Connie C and Greta.
The game ended up being a bit of a one sided affair in the end but Jess did have 1 good save down to her left to keep a clean sheet, other than that she had a quiet Sunday for once!
Looking forward to the next round.

U16 B

Harrogate v Doncaster U16B T1

U16G
Selby v Doncaster U16G
1 : 8
The girls travelled to Selby for the first round of the EH Cup.
Selby were only able to put out 10 players so it was agreed to play quarters to allow them more recovery time.
In the first quarter Lucia scored after 8 minutes and then Selby were able to equalize.
In the second quarter Ruby managed to tap a goal in after a scrabble in the D. There were 3 short corners , one of which Bella was able to convincingly convert with a rattle off the back board.
Half time 1/3 up to DHC.
In the second half the DHC girls got more in to their stride with some good passing sequences and the Selby legs tired. 3 more goals followed with another short corner conversion from Scarlett and 2 more goals from Ruby and Abigail.
In the final quarter Ruby scored 2 more goals within a couple of minutes of each other.
A convincing 1/8 win from the girls with 5 different goal scorers and 2 girls (Una and Cerys) making their debut for the team.
The girls have 3 weeks off now before they play their next round of the cup.

U14B
Doncaster U14B T1 v
8 : 0

U 14G
Sheffield v Doncaster U14G T1 v
0 : 5

10.30 am at Sheffield hockey club saw Doncaster U14's A team look to carry their impressive league form in to the first round of the cup.
From the off Doncaster attacked the Sheffield goal and a breakthrough finally came when good work down the right hand side from L Reynolds who played a ball into the D deflected off the Sheffield keeper to make it 1-0 to Doncaster . Unfortunately our keeper, Rain, felt unwell in goal so had to come off. The decision was made to carry on the game without a goal keeper.
A well worked short corner saw S Bundy pop up at the back post to knock the ball in to double Doncaster’s lead.
Half time came and the Doncaster girls were told they needed to push for the next goal to secure the game . A few chances came and went but eventually after great work from B Jones forcing the Sheffield keeper to make a good save I Beekie followed up to get the rebound to make it 3-0. B Jones stepped up again to take the 4th goal after some clever Doncaster play.
The icing on the cake was S Bundy getting her 2nd of the game, a carbon copy of her first after a well worked short corner.
As always the message from coaches was it doesn’t matter who scores the goals - the team wins the matches! And the team certainly worked hard to protect their own D with no goal keeper in it. A brilliant team performance !
On we march to the next round of the cup in November!
