Doncaster D1 v Slazengers
1 : 2
We didn’t win but I sort of feel like we did. We had 6 at 10yrs old, a few 11yr olds, and then 4 slightly rusty older men. Some of our kids have only played 1 or 2 full pitch dev games as well!
So to hold a decent Slazengers side with many u14s at 1-1 for that amount of time, and lose on the last hit of the game is a big achievement. We also had a lot of chances in the D, we just need to be more much ruthless attacking the goal, get those shots away!
The Price-Stephens family swept up the awards and they were well deserved! Josh took home player of the match with a very impressive, silky, energy packed performance and his sister Isabel took the most improved.
I want to thank Isabel for taking on all the advice we (especially Babs) gave her in staying on your strong side and attacking down the line. This is something the whole team needs to improve on.
Well done, and keep playing hockey.

U16 B
Harrogate v Doncaster U16B T1
1 : 3
Following a slow journey to the unusually Sunny Harrogate the u16 boys turned out for what could be a tricky fixture.
Winning the toss was the start to a determined performance by all involved.
Resisting the opening salvos form Harrogate a determined back four of Jayden, Jonsey, Hendo and Will in front of a resolute Matt in goal helped establish control. This allowed a fluid mid field to reap the benefits of their efforts.Width across the pitch was utilsed by Oli Wade and George whilst the ever dependable Oliver Wilson and Lucas began to express themselves and stop Harrogate's progress in the middle of the pitch.
Limited forays forward from DHC became the norm allowing debutant Giles and Cam to harass the at times suspect Harrogate rearguard.
One of these led to a controlled attack from back to front down the pitch resulting in Hendo tapping in the ball. 12 minutes gone 1-0.The expected determined fightback from Harrogate was not allowed to materialise and on the stroke of half time Hendo appeared again to finish a PC and tap in again. HT 2-0.
Second half seemed to mirror the first with Harrogate dominating the very early exchanges but finding no way past Matt. Running out of steam and ideas Harrogate succumbed to another tap in from Hendo.after 45 minutes.
A consolation goal after an hour was the last major event in the game as Doncaster played out the game.
Result Harrogate 1 Doncaster 3
Thanks for the wonderful support
U16G
Wakefield v Doncaster U16G
0 : 6
On a lovely sunny late afternoon the girls travelled to Wakefield for their second game of the season. Picking up on their previous performance Stuart encouraged the girls to get stuck in early, score a goal so they could relax in to the game. 6 minutes in Saffy did just that taking DHC to an early lead. The girls continued to dominate with further goals from Scarlett, Izzy R and Saffy again.
So by half time the girls were 4/0 up. Izzy B had managed to cleanly snap the top 3 inches off her stick and Charlie had surprised a passing squirrel by accidentally knocking a ball to its head! (it did run off).
In the second half Wakefield came out with renewed enthusiasm and DHC came under pressure for 5-10 minutes but the DHC girls continued to defend well with Saffy able to make another break and score again 15 minutes in. The final goal came from Bella with a real rattle off the back board.
Final score 6/0 win to the Donny girls!
Overall the girls showed a lot better communication on pitch especially when defending which is an area we have been working on. Great to have 4 different goal scorers.
Well done to Saffy for her hat trick!
Well done to all the girls for stamina with a number on their second match of the weekend and several on their third.
No goals conceded so far this season so the defence / team are working well together !
The girls are looking forward to their first EH Cup match next weekend.
U14G
Doncaster U14G T1 v Morpeth
4 : 2
Doncaster U14 T1welcomed Morpeth to Doncaster Hockey Club on Sunday 12th October, as they looked to build on last weeks impressive 1-1 draw with Leeds in tier 1.
The game got off to a slow scrappy start but Doncaster grew into the game winning a lot of short corners but failing to capitalise on them. In fact it was Morpeth, who against the run of play, managed to break the deadlock with their first short corner of the day.
Knowing they had to up their game, the Doncaster girls started to listen to coach (Travis) and begin to play wide. Sophie B picked the ball up at right full back and ran to the oppositions base line putting a dangerous ball into the D, a mass of players trying to attack the ball it was finally Sophie B who put the ball ball into the net herself!
Unfortunately again against the run of play Morpeth managed to score before half time meaning they went into the break 2-1 to the good.
Doncaster came out in the second half fired up and some good play down the right hand side again, lead to a ball being played across the D to Izzy W who had found some good space at the back post to level the score.
Doncaster is keen to press on, again winning numerous short corners. Georgie A injected to Bella H who struck the ball as sweet as you like, Georgie trapped the ball dead before converting herself giving Doncaster a well deserved 3-2 lead.
Doncaster continued to attack and there pressure paid off with Sophie B finishing off a fine display for the Doncaster team getting her 2nd and Doncaster’s 4th goal!
All in all a great win and a solid team performance, that showed team spirit and a desire to win!
