Doncaster hockey players Ben Pickles and Tomo Wheeldon are representing England at the Under-18 European Championships as the tournament gets underway in the Netherlands and Germany.
England made an impressive start to their campaign, producing a confident team performance to secure a 5-0 victory against one of the strongest sides in world hockey. The result gave the squad early momentum and underlined their quality as they began their European challenge.
The second match brought a tougher test. England found themselves 2-0 down by the end of the first quarter, but responded with determination and work rate to force their way back into contention.
After pulling a goal back, England levelled the contest through an impressive strike from Wheeldon from the top of the D, bringing the score to 2-2 and setting up a dramatic finish.
With the match decided by shuffles, England held their nerve and converted confidently to claim the win. The result leaves the England boys in a strong position as they move on to Germany for the next stage of their European Championship journey.
