We at Doncaster Hockey Club are absolutely delighted to announce that two of our brightest young talents - Tomo Wheeldon and Ben Pickles - have been selected for the England U18 Hockey Squad. Their hard work, commitment and performances this season have truly earned them this well-deserved recognition.

Tomo’s Journey:
Tomo has been at Doncaster Hockey Club since childhood, and his development over the past few seasons has been nothing short of remarkable. In just two years he soared from the 4ths, through the 3rds and 2nds, and landed in our 1st XI, where he has played a crucial role in attack. This season alone, Tomo has already made a significant impact in our National League campaign, popping up on the scoresheet multiple times and becoming a real attacking threat.

Ben’s Journey:
Ben joined Doncaster two seasons ago, and it didn’t take long for him to cement himself as one of the strongest defenders in the squad. Week in, week out, he’s delivered outstanding performances, never shying away from the hard graft and bringing calm and composure to our backline. Despite spending most of his junior career at Ben Rhydding Hockey Club, he has played the last two years for DHC U18’s where last season, his contributions were vital in propelling us to the U18 National Cup final, a huge achievement for the club. With this England call-up, Ben’s consistency and resilience are being rewarded, and we can’t wait to see him bring the same intensity to the national setup.

Having Tomo and Ben selected for the England U18 squad is a milestone for our club and continues our rich history of a strong junior set up that has a reputation for building world-class international players. It speaks volumes about the talent we’re nurturing within our youth system and shows that our pathway from junior hockey to the first team can lead to great success at national level.

Their achievements send a strong message to all our current aspiring hockey youngsters at Doncaster that hard work, dedication and belief can take you far.
