Committee Decisions 28 of 29

28. Committee Newsletter Oct 2015

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meet 5 Oct

Umpires - The club is short of qualified umpires. We urgently need club members to volunteer for umpiring now – please contact Ken West. A level 1 umpiring course will be organised for volunteers later in the year.

Club Handbook - The club handbook has been published containing team fixtures and a list of our sponsors. It is available from your captains.

Ladies, Men’s and Junior Sections - Adrian Shakeshelf has been appointed as the ladies 2nd team manager. Josh Oades will be running Monday night men’s training at 8pm. The new veterans captain will be Tony Henshaw. Indoor teams will be entered for all sections given the commitment of players.

Club Roles - An explanation of club roles for all members is still being worked on. The information will be put on our website to help everyone, including committee members, to better understand who needs to be leading on what within the club to keep it running and move it forward. This will cover the roles of paid and volunteering members who make up the majority of people who maintain the club and keep it moving forward.

Funding - Fund raising is going well. The Hockey Fest event was a great success raising over £1,500 for club funds. An organized fashion show is expected to raise a further £400 and £500 has been received from a private donation.

Kirk Bellerby’s drive on sponsorship has now reached over £2,500. Please support this great work to bring more funding into the club by asking or signing up even more sponsors that you personally can sell our club to.

Priorities for funding include; ladies and men’s first teams playing at the highest levels, pitch maintenance and refurbishment and playing equipment. Current fund raising pots will be allocated to new floodlights, and junior equipment.

Pitch Floodlights - The club has accepted an offer of £20,000 from the National Hockey Foundation to support the refurbishment of the pitch floodlights costing £27,850. With contributions from the pitch fund and recent funding events, the lights will be refurbished by Xmas.

The pitch is a major source of funding that supports the club and makes the periodic replacement of the pitch surface possible. We need to encourage as much paid use of the facility as possible by footballers and any other users.

Pitch Manager - A new pitch manager will be appointed by the 12 October.
