'Twas the night before Christmas.....'

Anna Clish24 Dec 2024 - 09:22

Merry Christmas!

’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the club,
Not a player was stirring, not even the subs.
The sticks were all cleaned and the balls put away,
In hopes that Saint Nicholas would soon make his way.

The players were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of drag flicks danced in their heads.
And coaches in hoodies, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a well-earned nap.

When out on the pitch there arose such a sound,
I sprang from my bed to see what was around.
Away to the window I flew in a dash,
Tore open the curtains, and threw up the sash.

The floodlights were glowing on the astro so neat,
And a figure appeared, with a stick at his feet.
He was dressed in red white and blue, from head to toe,
With a Donny HC kit, ready to go.

His shin guards were gleaming, his mouthguard a sight,
His socks pulled up high, looking sharp for the night.
With a flick of his wrist and a powerful sweep,
He sent the ball flying, the ball was so deep!

He called out to the forwards, “Get ready, get set,
The goalie’s on guard, but we’re not done yet!”
The defenders were quick, and the passes were crisp,
Every move so precise, you’d think it was a twist.

He dribbled through mid, with a smooth little jink,
And then with a slap, the ball made the net clink!
The crowd gave a cheer, it was one for the books,
With a goal that was better than all of their looks.

He laughed as he skated, then turned with a grin,
“Happy Christmas to Donny, now let the fun begin!”
He waved as he vanished into the night,
Saying, “Merry Christmas to all, and to all, play tight!

Doncaster Hockey Club would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!
