M5 1-2 Sheffield Hallam 6
M2 The 2nds started the day knowing a win could lift them off the foot of the table as they welcomed North Shields to the John Marshall Arena. Bambrough and Stoves were welcomed back into the team following their recents debuts and goals for the 1s! Doncaster started at pace against the bare 11 of Shields hoping to tire the opposition early and take advantage. 2 minutes in saw Price get his first tap in of the day following a well worked move.
Doncaster enjoyed a lot of possession which led to Wilson doubling the lead with 9 on the clock. 5 minutes passed before Kerly scored an emphatic 1 yard tap in. Trademark Kerly! 10 minutes passed before Wilson made it 4 with his second tomahawk of the half!Meek made it 5-0 on 27 minutes with a cool finish before a collision and his beard hitting someone earned him a green card! 5-0 half time and ‘More of the same’ was demanded by the baying crowd!
In typical Doncaster style we took our foot off the gas allowing Shields to get a goal back before Price regained the 5 goal advantage. A worked well Shields corners saw them get the score to 6-2. Shortly after Meek decided he didn’t like being head butted and a push earned him a 10 minute yellow. The North Shields players avoided a card despite the bumper crowd making it very clear to the umpires. Rudd shortly followed with a push warning him a 2 minute rest. The final 10 saw a flurry of goals for Doncaster. Firstly Bambrough fired a drag flick over the keepers head on 63, followed by Kerly making it 8 with 5 to go. Jack Stoves rounded the scoring off on 67 minutes. Stoves picked the ball up on the half way, turned, beat 6 players (only managing to stick block 3 of them) and calmly passed the ball in to the goal before possibly the worse celebration ever seen at Doncaster! Not as bad as his Greggs Crocs he had on post game! Final score 9-2! Positive end to the first half of the season for the 2s!
M3: After experiencing all the highs of Scarborough last week it was another trip on the road for the 3s, this time to Ramgarhia. The game got off to the worst of starts with Doncaster conceding in the first minute. The was followed by a second not long after. Some excellent work from Rahul Thomas to set up Kye Stothard got us back into the game. Searching for the equaliser, Doncaster pushed high up the pitch, however gave Ramgarhia the opportunity to counter, from which they added a third. Ramgarhia made it 4-1 just before half time with a short corner goal. The second half saw Doncaster try in vain to get back into the game, but with no success and Ramgarhia strong on the counter, the game finished 6-1. We regroup and go again next week, looking to finish strong before the Christmas break.
M4: This week the 4s had the early shift away to bottom side Hallam 5s.
Doncaster started well and dominated possession however for all the possession Doncaster could not get the ball in the net.
Again most of the play in the second half was played out in the Hallam half, however one turnover of the ball led to a breakaway from Hallam which they slotted in for the only goal of the game and with it came their first win of the season.
The best chances of the game for Doncaster when M Goodwin played a ball straight across the goal mouth evading the incoming Doncaster sticks and when a short corner flick was saved by the face mask of a defender on the line (no penalty flick awarded only another short corner).
A disappointing game that Doncaster could/should have won. Time to go back to basics, more passing and less dribbling!
M5: Men's 5th team entertained Sheffield Hallam 6ths in the reverse of the opening game of the season, looking to make amends for 1-2 score-line.
A well-contested game, with plenty of chances both ends, saw Hallam run out 2-1 winners again to cement their place in the Top 3.
Donny's goal coming through a Hotchkiss rifled PC.
