Sport England funding decision due in the next few weeks

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meetings – 8 May 2018

Men’ Ladies and Juniors
Congratulations to the Men’s 2nd team on their promotion. The Ladies section meeting will be held on 21 May and Men’s meeting to be confirmed. The summer hockey league will again be taking place this year so get your team together. A workshop for the club’s coaches and managers will be organized during the summer as well.

Pitch Resurfacing and Funding Applications
Sport England have now asked DHC to obtain tenders from three contractors for the replacement of our pitch surface. No offer of a funding grant has been made yet but they would not be asking for this further information to confirm actual costs if they were not giving our application serious consideration. We are aiming for completion of the resurfacing work before the start of the 2018/19 season. What we actually do will depend on how much total funding we get.

The remaining second hand surface from the Lee Valley Hockey Center has also been rejected for further use, leaving us with the preferred option of a completely new surface.

Finances
The 2016/17 accounts will be presented at this years AGM showing a small surplus. Fund raising activities during the 2017/18 have been gathering pace in support of the pitch surface replacement. Pitch square sales are over £6,000 and increasing, the comedy night made £1500, the club ball £1500 and grand raffle £2000. Thank you to everyone involved.

Savings to the pitch fund of at least £20k will be needed every year for the future replacement of the pitch surface in 2028. We have recently marketed the hire of our pitch at reduced rates for football during off peak hours, currently unused. We also need to explore options to free up more prime time for paying customers. This will involve discussions with Worksop College, Hall Cross, Hill House and other local schools to establish new longer term relationships with opportunities for funding of our pitch.

Club AGM – 3 June 1600 start
A proposal to increase members annual subscriptions will be made at the AGM.

The following changes to the club’s constitution will also be put to club members to support provision of funding for the next surface replacement in 2028:
- The committee shall maintain a single pitch sinking fund separate from all other accounts.
- The latest pitch sinking fund statement shall be presented to each committee meeting and be posted on the club's noticeboard.
- A standing order shall be set up to pay the higher of; £2000 per month from the clubs current account into the pitch sinking fund account or each months senior and junior pitch usage, charged at the published rates.
- Money shall not be moved out of the pitch sinking fund other than by agreement of an EGM.
