Ladies 1 v Bowden 2
This weekend sees the return of our ladies 1's back to the Conference North league after a spell in the Midlands. After a good preseason playing in the Andy Gibson tournament and the Yorkshire cup, the girls are ready to welcome Bowdon to the John Marshall Arena.
Over the summer, Bea and Frankie made their move to university so we wish them the best of luck! Also a huge congratulations to Nat who married her partner Dom!
Good luck girls on the first game of the season. Let’s bring the 3 points home!
[b]Men's 1 v Wakefield:
And just like that, we are back and ready for a new season down at Town Fields as we welcome fellow Yorkshire team Wakefield to the John Marshall Arena. It only seems like moments ago we were finishing up at Timperley on what was a fantastic 2023/24 campaign. We’ll be using that as a benchmark to finish as high up the Northern Conference as possible this time around.
A special thank you to those players who have moved on since last season in Ryan Sproul, Alex Kerly & Ben West. The door is always open for a return gents! While some have departed, some have also joined. A big welcome to Ben Pickles, Ryan Day & Tom Nash who join us for this season.
Once again, we have seen work being carried out over the summer to improve our facility. A huge thank you to all involved in the building of our brand new dugouts - they are superb!
Pre-season has been fairly eventful! Thanks to our friends at Accelerate Coaching for whipping us into shape and to Ben Rhydding, York & England O40’s for attending the pre-season tournament at the start of September. Pre-season was rounded of with some silverware as we retained the Yorkshire Cup last weekend by coming top of a 4-team pool consisting of Ben Rhydding, Leeds and this weekend’s opponents, Wakefield.
I feel like we’re ready to start the season on the front foot, and this game should be an advert for the North Conference - a fiercely competitive game between two sides who know each other very well, played in the right spirit.
A note to supporters, we will be observing a minute’s silence this weekend firstly to mark the third anniversary of Andy Gibson’s passing, but also to remember our friend and NPUA stalwart, Mark Jarvis.
I’m looking forward to getting going, and I hope we can represent the club in the correct manner this season. Thanks in advance for your support.
