Mark Wood is Doncaster’s highest male National League goalscorer, with 159 goals in his 223 appearances, which puts him 2nd on the appearance list. His strike rate is so exceptional that he is a full 68 goals ahead of the 2nd place on the goal scoring list!
Tadcaster native Mark joined the club in 1989 after impressing Steve Brooks whilst playing for Yorkshire under 21s and marked his National League debut with a goal in the first 5 minutes. For the next 14 years he scored goals for fun, hitting 26 in both the 1996/97 and 1998/99 seasons. Despite rupturing his achilles in pre-season for the 2000/2001 season, he came back the following year to score 12 goals.
Mark was also a mainstay of the Yorkshire side in winning 3 county championships and was also selected to represent England B.
A phenomenal penalty stroke taker, he was a truly inspirational leader on and off the pitch.
