Top of the table thriller!
A blustery and drizzly day in Doncaster saw a top of the table clash where Doncaster hosted Kirkby Stephen, who were sitting 5 points below in 2nd place.
Doncaster started well showing an attacking intent, but were weary of the hard press set by the opposition.
Sarah Thorpe opened the scoring for Doncaster on the 10th minute with a slick reverse shot. Doncaster took control with Kirkby not stepping much into their half. The score doubled from a well worked team effort that was fired into the goal by Bexx Woods. Kirkby pulled one back on the stroke of half time from a penalty corner.
With the 2nd half just underway Bexx Woods scores her 2nd goal of the day. At 3-1 Doncaster looked comfortable but failed to extend their lead when Kirkby managed to pull one back to take it to 3-2. Within 4 mins Bexx Woods appears again to score 2 more goals for Doncaster to take it to 5-2.
The game looked safe however Kirkby got a goal on 55mins. Things were getting from bad to worse for Doncaster when skip Hannah Rockliff had to be taken of due to a head injury. Kirkby capitalised from this and scored another to take it to 5-4.
However, with 3 minutes left of the game Doncaster claimed the 3 points with a well worked short corner routine, which was scored by Lauren Firth from a neat deflection.
Doncaster are now 6 points clear at the top of the table.
