Doncaster come from behind to share the spoils!!

Doncaster visited a cold Liverpool for their final game before the Christmas break and it was the hosts who started the stronger of the two teams hoping to do the double over Doncaster.

Liverpool started the game well taking advantage over some poor play by Doncaster and piled the pressure on the Doncaster goal from the start. The pressure finally worked breaking the deadlock on 16 minutes with a well worked move and finding the Doncaster goal. Liverpool continued to play the ball round well and were again rewarded for their efforts in the 23 minute making the scoreline 2-0 which remained the same going into the break.

During half time the ever inspirational words of coach Clive and captain Kirstie buoyed their side. This worked well, as it was Doncaster who were out of the starting blocks in the second half. Following a fantastic through ball into the Liverpool circle Charlotte Tomlin screamed in a shot which was going narrowly wide until captain Kirstie Grace slotted home within two minutes of the restart.

Doncaster continued to pile on the pressure but it was Liverpool who picked up the next goal following a break away and clinically slotting home a short corner. This minor set back didn't put off the inspired Doncaster side who continued to press and pulled one back in the 50th minute when the ball fell to Lauren Firth on a short corner who slotted the ball away.

Doncaster continued to press well and were again rewarded with short corner in the 64th minute. The ball was struck well by Rachel Smart only for the Liverpool goalkeeper to deny her efforts, but the ball looped up to Charlotte Tomlin who played the ball into the net with skill. After a short debate the goal stood, so with 5 minutes to play the scores were level.

Straight after the restart Doncaster won the ball and played it long into the Liverpool circle where it was met by the recently introduced Verify Blyth who put in Doncaster' s fourth, taking the lead for the first time with four minutes remaining.

Doncaster held on to their narrow lead for two minutes but with Liverpool pressing once again they managed to break the Doncaster defence and steal a point with a minute left on the clock.

Doncaster will host Liverpool in a friendly at Town Fields on 27th January at 1.45pm before kick starting their league campaign following the Christmas break against Ben Rhydding on February 3rd again at Town Fields starting at 2pm.
