Doncaster fire in 6!!!

This week saw Doncaster host Wakefield in their league opener. The game started well with both sides pushing from the first whistle. This time it was Doncaster who took the lead in the 17th minute when Spike slotted home well. Both sides continued to press well and both goalkeepers were tested but the score remained the same until the break.

Following inspirational words from the Doncaster skipper Iain McBride Doncaster set out in the second half to put the game beyond a well drilled Wakefield unit. It only took 30 seconds from the restart for Doncaster to double their lead following a lovely little bit of individual skill rounding 4 Wakefield players and the Wakefield keeper before slotting the ball into and empty net.

This gave Doncaster the confidence they required to finish the game off and and continue to press the Wakefield defence. Although Doncaster kept pushing hard for a third Wakefield broke themselves on numerous occasions testing the Doncaster goalkeeper and his defence but they stood tall to everything that was thrown at them.

Doncaster's third goal came in the 46th minute this time skipper McBride scored before demonstrating his new celebration. Doncaster then continued to break and in the 52nd minute the fourth goal was scored with Anthony Fearn adding to the tally.

Wakefield still didn't lay down playing some lovely hockey and moaking Doncaster work until the final whistle. In the final 10 minutes Doncaster added 2 more to their tally with the inform captain McBride firing home a well worked corner. Doncaster continued to press until the last touch of the game which saw McBride slip the ball back inside which was slotted home in style by Spike Bradley scoring his second of the game.

This gave Doncaster a six nil win and kicked off their season in style. The Man of the Match was awarded to goalkeeper Sam Deakin and the DOD was given to Richard Housham for forgetting the practice balls.

Next week Doncaster travel to Sheffield Hallam to hopefully continue their push and add a further 3 points to their tally.
