Pitch surface replacement and development

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meet 4 Sept 2017

The Pitch and Funding
This season the committee will be mainly focused on the replacement of our pitch surface and possibly creating a new training area at the top end of the pitch. We have made good progress identifying what needs to be done, what could be done and identified possible sources of funding. The next decision to be made will be around when to start work in either the summer of 2018 or 2019.

We will need additional minimum funding of around £150k from external sources such as Sport England Lottery and extra internal funding of around £20k form specific fund raising events.

In order to become more sustainable in years to come, the hockey club needs to find an additional income stream of £15k per year. Please let us know if you can actually do that or contribute to it. There is no shortage of ideas just action to achieve it.

Getting Ready For The New Season
The 2017/18 season starts this month with the first league games being played on the 23 September. The new fixtures booklet will be ready along with membership forms and associated information. We are still looking for a new men’s rep on the committee. Alan Stoves will be using 1st team game videos at a general club coaching session on a date to be organized before Xmas.

Juniors
Adrian Shakesheff has been appointed as the new lead Junior Coach. Part of the role will be to attract more sources of income from local schools and colleges. A new volunteer Junior Coordinator is still required.

Sports Club
Our clubhouse is due to be redecorated, seats refurbished and new TVs installed, all before Xmas.

England Hockey
England Hockey are currently consulting on plans to change the organisation of our national leagues. Our feeling is that these changes will happen, it is just a question of when but will provide opportunities for both our men’s and ladies 1st teams.
