Report & Results 9/10 March '19

This week, only have the Ladies' report as the men's game was abandoned after 7 minutes due to bad weather.

LADIES' 1st TEAM

Doncaster travelled to Kirkby Stephen for their final away game of the season. The girls started brightly putting Kirkby on the back foot but early efforts were saved by their keeper. Deadlock was broken when Kirkby broke down a Doncaster attack and got the ball wide and high to their winger who made a cross into the circle finding their attacker at the back post to slot the ball home. Doncaster restarted and again had all the possession which eventually paid off on 17 minutes when Sarah Thorpe picked up the ball at the top of the area stepped, inside the defender and hit a sublime reverse stick shot into the bottom corner. 1-1. It took Doncaster just 90 seconds to take the lead, again through a Sarah Thorpe goal. Receiving the ball again at the top of the area and nobody marking her she calmly struck the ball into the bottom corner.

The second half was more of the same with Kirkby defending in numbers and Doncaster threatening their goal. Kirkby had their keeper to thank for keeping them in the game with some fine saves. Kirkby had a few counter-attacks but these were snubbed out by a resolute Doncaster defence. Final score Kirkby Stephen 1-2 Doncaster.

Doncaster need only 1 point from two games to secure promotion to the National League and both games are at home. This Saturday's game is against Alderley Edge at 12.00 noon at Town Fields.
