Sport England grant of £100k confirmed for astroturf pitch

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meetings – 6 Aug 2018

Congratulations to:
Alan Stoves gold medal winner at the Masters World cup coaching England over 40s men, Gareth Ikin and Hannah Rockliffe also gold medalists with England over 35s women, Paul Hatton and Jonathan Redfearn silver medalists with England over 35s (men). Dan West was selected for England U18 squad for the 17/18 cycle and played tests against Holland, Scotland, Germany & Belgium, culminating in the European Cup in Santander in July 2018. In June, Dan was one of a small number of the squad to be nominated for the U21s and he has trials in September for the GB U23 Elite Development Squad. He is the recipient of a SportsAid award for 2018 and has received funding through the local Rotary Club.

Pitch Resurfacing and Funding Applications
Sport England has confirmed a grant of £100k for the resurfacing of the club’s astroturf pitch. Combined with a National Hockey Foundation grant of £35k and club funds of £105k, this gives us a total budget of £240k – sufficient to resurface the playing area and extended margins. To avoid disruption to the 2018/19 season, work on resurfacing will commence at the end of the season in 2019. This will also give time to plan for new dugouts and additional spectator safety fencing.

Finances
The 2016/17 accounts showed a small surplus just over £3k. During the 2017/18 season, revenue savings of £9k and fund raising activities contributed a total of £25k towards the resurfacing budget. Thank you to everyone involved.

Savings to the pitch fund of at least £20k will be needed every year for the future replacement of the pitch surface in 2028. We have recently marketed the hire of our pitch at reduced rates for football during off peak hours, currently unused. We also need to explore options to free up more prime time for paying customers. This will involve discussions with Worksop College, Hall Cross, Hill House and other local schools to establish new longer term relationships with opportunities for funding of our pitch.

Club AGM 3 June and EGM 16 July
Annual subscription increases were agreed to; Seniors £220, Students (16-21) £110, Juniors £85 (1 member), £110 (2 members), £130 (3 members). Changes to the club’s constitution were agreed to support the next surface replacement in 2028. The critical change was agreement to pay £6000 per quarter from the clubs current account into the pitch sinking fund.
