Mens Veterans and Ladies 3rds reach their cup finals

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meetings – 9 April 2018

Pitch Resurfacing and Funding Applications
Testing of the pitch surface at Sport England’s request has confirmed the need for surface and shock pad replacement. They now have all the information required to make a decision on our funding application, hopefully by the end of April.

England Hockey have told us that the first second hand surface from the Lee Valley Hockey Center has been rejected for further use. We await news of the second (training) surface. Whilst this would greatly reduce our resurfacing costs the life of a second hand pitch would be less than a new one and would not be as easy to maintain for multi sports including football from which we derive a large income. It is however a fallback position. We are aiming for completion of the resurfacing work before the start of the 2018/19 season. What we actually do will depend on how much total funding we get.

Information from funding applications is readily available for anybody to make additional applications – it’s easy. Other fund raising activities are gathering pace so please support them – pitch squares sale and ‘last man standing’ plus social events.

Finance and the Club’s Consitution
The following changes to the club’s constitution will be put to club members for approval at the AGM on 3 June to support provision of funding for the next surface replacement in 2028:
- The committee shall maintain a single pitch sinking fund separate from all other accounts.
- The latest pitch sinking fund statement shall be presented to each committee meeting and be posted on the club's noticeboard.
- A standing order shall be set up to pay the higher of; £2000 per month from the clubs current account into the pitch sinking fund account or each months senior and junior pitch usage, charged at the published rates.
- Money shall not be moved out of the pitch sinking fund other than by agreement of an EGM.

We still need to market the hire of our pitch at reduced rates for football in off peak hours currently unused, and explore options to free up more prime time for paying customers. This will involve discussion with Worksop College, Hall Cross, Hill House and other local schools to establish new longer term relationships with opportunities for funding of our pitch. Annual savings to the pitch fund of at least £20k will be needed into the future.

Men’ Ladies and Juniors
Charlotte Dodds joined the committee as the new Junior Coordinator with ideas for equipment needs and a proposal to set up an ‘Instagram’ social media account for younger fingers. The committee approved a new ladies 5th team for the coming 2018/19 season.
