21. Committee Newsletter June 2016

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meet 6 June

Finances – Further progress is being made to understand our financial position for 2014/15 and 2015/16 (to 31 August). Lindsey will be providing an up to date position for 2015/16 (to the 31 May) at the July committee meeting. In summary there had been three continuous deficit years (2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15) totaling some £20k leaving our capital reserves for pitch surface replacement at around £70k.

That deficit trend has been reversed in 2015/16, in particular by; Matt’s chairmanship and action in achieving better control of pitch hire and expenditure, Bev’s better control of match fees and membership payments and success with funding applications for floodlights for example. In addition there has been tighter control on not spending money we don’t have. This has all been achieved with the support of committee members.

A modest surplus in each of those deficit years of £5k would have given us a current reserve of around £105k, closer to the £150k we will need for a new pitch surface.

To support this progress, Steve and Lindsey will be developing some much needed financial control protocols particularly around cash payments. Our bank accounts will also shortly be rationalised and brought up to date with the provision of internet banking.

Sponsorship – the club is hugely indebted to DC Training for their committed sponsorship of the club of £5k per year for three years. Arrangements are in place for a social event that the company has laid on for the whole club on the 9 June. We all look forward to a very happy relationship with DC Training over the next three years.

New Kit – An order for our chosen new kit will be placed shortly. Twenty sets of first team shirts, shorts/skorts and socks will be purchased for both the ladies and men’s first teams. Intersport will continue to supply our new Adidas kit under the same arrangements. Stock will be available for club members to purchase from the start of the season. The chosen shirt is a white T16 design with red stripe; a collar for the ladies and round neck for men. A full range of other kit will be available including tracksuits and hoodies.

Section Updates – 3rd and 4th team captains are still required for the men’s section. The Ladies section meeting will be held on the 13 June. Ade Shakeshelf has volunteered to coordinate goalkeeping kit needs.

Other Updates – The North League umpires voted Doncaster Ladies as the most hospitable club – brilliant and well done to the ladies. Yorkshire League fixtures for 2016/17 will be out shortly. Steve will be undertaking an overdue (by years) review of Hon Life Members, Vice Presidents and Patrons. Kerry will be leading a small team to achieve our Clubs First accreditation with England Hockey.
