Committee Decisions 19 of 29

19. Committee Newsletter Sept 2016

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meet 5 Sept

New Season 2016/17 – the captains and managers are in place for all sections, training and practice matches have started and the juniors have made an encouraging start with their first session on the 2nd September. Everything is shaping up for the start of the new season. The fixtures handbook has gone to the printers, Bev will have the mission packs ready for captains at the first selection meeting of the season on the 19th September. The new club kit will be on display at the Hockey Fest at the club on the 17th September.

Finances – Lindsey has now got us into 21st century with on line banking. Well done Lindsey. We will be able to track membership payments better and nail (to the wall) those who don’t pay on time. Financial protocols and systems of tracking all cash income and expenditure are progressing well through Lindsey and Steve.

People who still haven’t paid last year’s subscriptions will not be playing at this club, or any other club, until they do. One character has tried to move to another club but has not escaped Bev’s long arm.

Volunteers – get things done and make essential things happen in the running of the club. We always need more from coaching, captaining, organizing to committee roles. Abby O’Neil has volunteered to be our first volunteer coordinator with the task of recruiting volunteers wherever they are most needed. Her first task will be to recruit volunteers to collect material for the website, supporting Sam Deakin our Webmaster. Jo West has also volunteered to be our Press Officer for the new season.

Website – the committee approved a plan to create a new club website and test it against our existing one. The new site already holds much promise to deliver a more vibrant platform to promote our club and enthuse and inform club members.

Club Mark – Kerry, Jo and John are preparing the club’s application to achieve England Hockey’s Club Mark. It will establish DHC amongst the best in the country and is important in our quest for funding to support the pitch surface replacement for example . The floodlight funding from the National Hockey Foundation was dependent on us achieving this EH standard.

Social Events – Elaine Thorpe and a group of volunteers have already met to plan out next years provisional socials. Keep your eyes on the new notice board.
