Committee Decisions 18 of 29

18. Committee Newsletter Oct 2016

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meet 3 Oct

New Season 2016/17 – There has been a fantastic start to the season with 9 wins, a draw and a loss on the 1 October. The ladies 1st team have won both their opening games and the mens 1st team two from three. The ladies, mens and junior sections all reported increased numbers and a greater strength in depth. The fixtures handbook is now out and being distributed to players. The new kit is available through our suppliers intersport.

Finances – Having achieved better up to date information about the club’s income and expenditure we hope to be in a position to see a rough cut of the club’s financial position at each committee meeting. Our next financial priority is to resolve any outstanding corporation tax amounts owed.

We continue to pursue people who still haven’t paid last year’s subscriptions. The character who tried to move to another club has now asked to pay off his debt in installments. A further two members have now agreed to pay last years subs before playing again this year. We will consider our options for the remaining two non payers including a final official warning and legal action.

2016/17 season subscriptions are due from all players by the end of October.

Website – A review of website options has concluded
1. we need to recruit a webmaster successor ASAP and volunteers to collect up to date website material whatever platform we use.
2. New Pitchero developments including new homepage design and time saving uploading of league fixtures.
3. Annoying adverts can be removed very simply from any member’s machine through a number of application options.
4. A new website could be fully developed if the committee commit to it now. We would then need to load up all the club data taking around two weeks.

The committee decided to pursue 1. above as a priority alongside 2. creating a new homepage as a matter of urgency and to stay with the existing pichero package.

It was agreed to thank Paul for his important contribution in presenting an alternative website option and give him free sponsorship benefits for a year including a pitch banner. The website itch had been scratched and the review had brought out new information and a conclusion with a clear course of action.

Volunteers – get things done and make essential things happen in the running of the club. Alistair West has joined the committee as the Junior Coordinator. We are currently looking for a Webmaster(s) to continue Sam Deakin’s work and volunteers to collect material for the website.

Social Events – Elaine Thorpe and a group of volunteers raised close on £1700 for the club through the Leger Day cake stall and the Hockey Fest day. Future events include:
• Saturday 29th October – a Halloween whole family event
• Saturday 17th December - Cheese & Wine
• Saturday 18th February - possible cocktail evening
• Friday 7th April - Junior Awards Presentation evening
• Saturday 8th April - Hockey Club Ball
