15. Committee Newsletter Jan 2017

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meet 9 Jan 2017

Volunteer Webmaster – Volunteers are always needed to help run the club. At the moment we are still looking for a volunteer run the club’s website which would provide them with valuable work experience. A new home page is being developed at the moment so it is an exciting time to take on the role.

More Umpires Needed – There is a need for more volunteers to undertake the level 1 umpiring course. We will be contacting those who have already been on the level 1 course to ask them to use Yorkshire Youth and Junior cup games to be assessed and become qualified.

Pitch Surface – A big improvement has now been achieved in the pitch surface through the hard work of all our volunteers. We are continuing to ‘treat’ the pitch to keep algae and moss under control. The next step will be to apply sand and maintain the surface to a high standard until it is replaced.

Finance – further progress has been made by Lindsey to understand the club’s up to date financial position. Our thoughts are therefore turning to the financing of the pitch surface replacement in around three years time. We are starting to talk to suppliers to understand the cost of a new pitch surface and any other affordable improvements including a training area at the far end of the pitch. This will enable us to work out what our funding needs will be and develop a plan to meet those needs.

Membership 2016/17 - Annual membership payments were due at the end of November last year. We are now excluding several players from selection due to non payment of their annual subscription, until they do pay. We are also closing in on two former players who have not paid their membership for last season, through formal debt collection.

Social Events – Future events include:
• Saturday 18th February - possible cocktail evening
• Friday 7th April - Junior Awards Presentation evening
• Saturday 8th April - Hockey Club Ball
