14. Committee Newsletter Feb 2017

Key DECISIONS and ACTIONS from the Hockey Club Committee Meet 6 Feb 2017

Social Events – Future events include:
• Saturday 18th February - cocktail evening
• Friday 7th April - Junior Awards Presentation evening
• Saturday 8th April - Hockey Club Ball
The Hockey Club ball was confirmed as a marquee event on the 8 April at the club. The associated benefits of holding the event at our own club and providing a venue for the junior presentation were strong factors in the decision. A low cost food service option was agreed to achieve a break even plus budget.

AGM
To be held on the 14 May. A new Club President, currently Steve Ward needs to be elected according to the cycle, alternating from the Men’s to the Ladies section. The Club Chairman, Matt Goodwin, also announced his intention to step down at the end of the season and will require replacement. Further volunteer opportunities will arise on the committee and team captains as we move from this season to the next.

Pitch Surface – We are continuing to ‘treat’ the pitch to keep algae and moss under control. Sand will be applied fairly shortly to help maintain the surface to a high standard until it is replaced. Ali West, Junior Coordinator, has volunteered to lead a team to understand the cost of a new pitch surface and any other affordable improvements including a training area at the far end of the pitch. This will enable us to work out a plan to meet the funding needs. The aim would be to have a new surface possibly by the start of the 2019 / 2020 season at the earliest.

Section Reports – our juniors have continued to excel with both U16 and U18 boys reaching their respective indoor finals events, both finishing 3rd. U16 boys are Yorkshire champions. The mens section will hold its annual meeting on the 27 March 7pm. Both the men’s 3rds and 4ths are chasing promotion. Approval was given for provision of a video package to support Ladies and Men’s coaches in the development of players.

Penalties imposed by the league on the Men’s 5th team following an administrative registration error are to be reviewed. A new Vision, Behaviours, Disciplinary and Disputes Procedure has been drafted for a decision at the committee’s next meeting.

Volunteer Webmaster – Volunteers are always needed to help run the club. At the moment we are still looking for a volunteer to run the club’s website which would provide valuable work experience. A new home page is being developed at the moment so it is an exciting time to take on the role.

Membership 2016/17 - Annual membership payments so far total £24,000 this season, a big improvement on two or three seasons ago and much more readily collected. The committee agreed that maintaining a culture of ready payment of annual membership and match fees were essential to sustain the future of the club.
